Devlog 6/21/2024 (Difficulty Options)
Finally got around to properly adding in difficulty/gameplay options to Abscura. Technically you could already change them from the config file, but now there's an actual options menu for it lol.
So now you can set the HP multiplier which basically allows for more room for error in battles, at the cost of making them last longer lel. The way the game the game calculates HP is more or less "(ATK + SPD + DEF) x HPMult". The default option is x2, while the most unforgiving option, "Make It Count", sets the multiplier to 0.5.
You can set the dungeon size multiplier as well. Right now the options are "Diorama" (x0.25), "Baby" (x0.5), "Small" (x0.75), "Normal" (x1), "Large" (x1.5), "Colossal" (x2), "No Way Out" (x3), and "Make Me Lost" (x4).
I might have to nerf the highest values a bit for the dungeon size multiplier, depending on how much I can optimize the game, cuz spawning in a bajillion tiles does affect the load time quite a bit lol, not to mention memory.
I do like the idea of giving the options names like that tho cuz it's fun lel. But there's also the hope that by making the worst possible options have parallel names like that, it's like dangling a little piece of temptation in front of the masochists who like to make games unnecessarily hard for themselves. Like I want some insane person to try and beat the game on "Make It Count, Make Me Lost" mode lol. (I might be evil)
